  6. Next meeting

1. Confirmation of the coordinators

The meeting approved by a show of hands and unanimously the applications of two new coordinators of the Haut-Evere Neighbourhood Council. The sitting coordinator's mandate was renewed. The rules provide for two-year renewable mandates.

The council will be represented on the Advisory Council for Citizen Participation by the two new coordinators. The first meeting is set for 16 June at 6.30 pm.

2. Feedback from meetings with the municipality and ongoing issues

Progress on issues

  1. New pharmacy on Avenue Colonel Bourg: request for a short-stay parking space (20 minutes) to better serve customers. The request was made a few months ago. A meeting with the alderman and the owners is planned.

  2. Bin to be removed on Rue Hugo Verriest, because of the large amount of litter around it: the municipality is examining the request.

  3. Parc Mandela: awareness campaign aimed at dog owners.

  4. Pedestrian crossings around Rue du Maquis repainted: work completed.

  5. Installation of secure bike lockers: no answer yet.

  6. More regular cleaning around a supermarket in the neighbourhood: no answer yet.

  7. Parking.brussels: a drop-in service is held every Tuesday at the town hall.

  8. STIB bus 80: the municipality has chased STIB, and an answer is awaited.

  9. Burglaries in Haut-Evere: the mayor has reviewed the situation with the police, who have stepped up their presence in the streets concerned.

  10. The Platon area's patchwork festival is being held in Parc Mandela this year (organised by Entrela).

  11. Works planned in the neighbourhood this autumn: a speed bump on Rue des Deux Maisons, by the school; resurfacing of Avenue Dunant (Genève side); improvement of the pedestrian crossing on Rue de Genève.

Mobility and road safety

Several road safety points were discussed. For Avenue Henry Dunant, a study of traffic-calming measures is requested, especially between the cemetery and the first junction. A similar request concerns Rue Hugo Verriest.

It is pointed out that speed bumps can cause noise (braking and accelerating). Speed cushions, which are better suited to buses, were mentioned.

Before any decision, it is proposed to assess the situation objectively with a speed indicator sign or another measuring system, to find out how many vehicles are speeding. Other measures, such as flower planters, could also be considered.

Participants suggest a more systematic approach to requests for speed bumps, possibly as grouped requests, and inviting an expert or a competent official to explain the options. The redesign of several pedestrian crossings in the neighbourhood was also mentioned.

Avenue Mommaerts

The state of the pavements was reported; a resident is said to have fallen recently because of their poor condition. The road is due to be resurfaced. It is requested that, as part of this, priority be given to repairing the pavements and making them safe.

Public cleanliness and awareness

The relevant departments already do their utmost to keep the neighbourhood clean, but residents still need to be made more aware.

  • Put up awareness posters or signs, especially near bins. Some campaigns run in Waterloo could serve as inspiration.

  • Think about practical measures, as bins can sometimes attract inappropriate dumping (picnic areas, gathering places).

  • Include a cleanliness section in a welcome programme for newcomers.

  • Mobile cameras: according to the information reported, the police indicate that such a system could be considered provided it only targets number plates, not faces.

3. Review of the Easter egg hunt (6 April)

The event was organised with the support of the municipality and the traders' association, whose contribution was highlighted and appreciated. Around 70 to 80 children took part. Particular attention was paid to children from Haut-Evere, to encourage their participation and access to neighbourhood activities.

Feedback was very positive: a friendly moment that brought people together, enjoyed by children and families alike. The Neighbourhood Council warmly thanks the volunteers who helped organise the event and make it a success.

4. Ideas for activities until the end of the year

The Neighbourhood Council would like to develop more activities for residents, to strengthen ties between neighbours. The municipality's cultural services could also offer some of their activities directly in Haut-Evere, to make culture more accessible. For example, the toy library already holds a monthly board game evening in Bas-Evere: the idea of holding one in Haut-Evere will be looked into.

Activities already scheduled

  • Neighbours' day: 29 May (announced by email).

  • Evere en Fête: 20 June. A table is provided for the council, represented by three members.
