Road safety: speed bumps, pedestrian crossings and pavements
Speed, pedestrian crossings, damaged pavements: what residents asked for and what is planned this autumn.
Several road safety issues were discussed at the meeting on 19 May.
-
Speed: residents ask for traffic-calming measures to be studied on Avenue Henry Dunant (between the cemetery and the first junction) and on Rue Hugo Verriest. Speed bumps can cause noise; speed cushions, better suited to buses, were mentioned. Before any decision, the idea is to measure actual speeds with a speed display sign. Flower boxes could also be considered.
-
Method: participants suggest grouping the requests for speed bumps and inviting an expert from the municipality to present the possible options.
-
Pavements: the condition of the pavements on Avenue Mommaerts was reported. Their renovation is normally planned: we ask that repairing the pavements and making them safe be a priority.
-
Pedestrian crossings: the redesign of several pedestrian crossings was discussed. The road markings around Rue du Maquis have been done.
Works announced for this autumn: a speed bump on Rue des Deux Maisons by the school, resurfacing of Avenue Dunant (Geneva side) and an improved pedestrian crossing on Rue de Genève.
